more paternity leave = less desire for more children

Spanish fathers have been given more (and taking more) paternity leave over the last decade. In 2007, most dads received 2 weeks of paternity leave. In 2018, they were granted 5 weeks of paternity leave. Increased paternity leave has known positive results (fathers are more engaged with the child, household duties are split more evenly + mothers are more likely to go back into the work force, etc.) But the researchers also found something else that surprised them. Spanish fathers who took more paternity leave also had less desire for more children. They must have witnessed first hand how challenging it is to bring up children. motherly
